SKY PAINTERS
eng   |  rus

Every person has seen a fireworks show at least once in his or her life. Celebration of the New Year or The Victory Day is not a celebration if there's no colourful fire show in the sky.

However, lots of people don't know what pirotechnics' work is like. A 5-minutes fireworks show consists of at least a week of a hard team work: writing the program of a show, selecting necessary stuff, roads, hotels, negotiations, setting up the equipment, checks, and so on. And most of the time pirotechnics cannot see their creations, 'cause their sights are chained to a starting desk or to a computer at the same time when fireworks explode in the sky just above their heads.

I was documenting two pirotechnics teams in Komi Republic, Russia. These guys work far away from their houses and they do their best when other people celebrate the New Year, the 23th of February or the 9th of May... Their families celebrate holidays without fathers of brothers very often. But anyway, they are the people who give us some carefree and happy minutes.
